The Cassville track teams traveled to Aurora last Thursday in hopes of scoring their first meet victory. The boys were close, placing second, but neither team took the top prize.

For the gentlemen the 'Cats had two first place finishers. Senior Brian Elkins took first in the triple jump with a season best leap of 39'. Nick Pianalto, also a senior, took first in the discus throw. Pianalto, last year's state runner up in the event, threw the disc 165'7.5". His throw broke his previous best to set another school record.

Cassville also had some second place finishers. Cody Lee was the runner-up in shot put with a toss of 43'8". Junior Colt Beck tied for second in the high jump with a vertical of 5'8".

The Wildcats top relay was the 3,200-meter relay team of Dannon Rose, Nate Evans, Corey Wilbanks and Jeremy Archuletta. Not only did the team take third place with a season-best time of 9:04.13, but they did it under duress.

In the baton exchange between Evans and Rose, Evans' spikes caught on Rose's shoe, which resulted in a one-socked and one-shoed 800 meters for the junior.

Wilbanks also took third place. He came in with a time of 11:31 in the 3200-meter race. The 400-meter relay team of Brian Elkins, Brent Elkins, Phillip Cooper and Jon Haney also fared well, taking third with a time of 47.39 seconds.

Others who helped attain the second place finish included: Archuleta, fourth, long jump; Billy Wright, fourth, discus; Devon Scroggins, fourth, pole vault; Evans, fourth, 400-meter; Wilbanks, fourth, 1600-meter; the 800-meter relay team of Brian Elkins, Brent Elkins, Cooper and Ethan Couch, sixth; Justin Nosler, sixth, 110-meter hurdles; and Mathew Angel, sixth, high jump.

On the girls side, the team was led by Misty Long. The junior took second in the 3200-meter run with a time of 13:20.

Paige Hukill set a season best and placed third in the 200-meter race with a time of 27.8 seconds. Marty Richmiller also took third in the triple jump. She jumped a length of 30'5".

Other Ladycats placing were: the 3,200-meter relay team of Ron' L Hoff, Ariell Abramovitz, Long and Tia Baker; the 400-meter relay team of Hoff, Abramovitz, Brittney Wilbanks and Hukill; Leah Jones, 400-meter; Kristi Whitcomb, 300-meter hurdles; Tia Baker, 800-meter; the 1,600-meter relay team of Jones, Baker, Whitcomb and Abramovitz; Richmiller, long jump; and Brittney Wilbanks, pole vault.

Cassville will compete again next Monday, April 16 at the Carl Junction Relays.
