Excavation crews have begun dirt work on a retention pond, which will be located behind the helicopter pad near the St. John's Hospital and Clinics in Cassville. The retention pond was designed by Sprenkle and Associates of Monett, and the excavation work is being conducted by Couch Excavation of Cassville. When completed, the retention pond will provide relief for flooding on First Street and Gravel Street. On March 20, one day before the official start of spring, excavation crews took a day off due to the heavy rains that soaked Barry County throughout the morning hours. St. John's Hospital officials could not be reached for comment about the retention pond this week. A full retention pond article will appear in a future edition of the Cassville Democrat.
