Carolyn (George) Pennel, 74, of Hemphill, Texas, formerly of Butterfield, passed away Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, in Hemphill, Texas.

She was born April 30, 1932, at Elm Springs, Ark. On Dec. 7, 1949, she was united in marriage to Leonard Purvis who passed away on July 7, 1964.

On June 15, 1973, she married Dean Pennel, who preceded her in death June 2, 1998. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Dennis Purvis and Lynn Purvis; one stepson, Jim Pennel; and one brother, Lee George.

survivors include: one son, Dwight Purvis, of Hemphill, Texas; three daughters, Patricia Purvis, of Raleigh, N.C., Carol Clarke, of Florida, and Anita Waterman, of California; one stepdaughter, Wilma Serls, of Monett; two brothers, Joe George, of Springfield, and David George, of LaGrange, Ga.; three sisters, Jean Blinka, of Dallas, Texas; Margie George, of Springfield, and Mary George, of Danville, Calif.; 14grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

She grew up in Barry County and later returned with her children, who also grew up in Barry County. In 1986, she moved to Hemphill, Texas. She was of the Baptist faith.

Graveside services were held Tuesday in Arnhart Cemetery, Purdy, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Rev. Jerry Nickle conducted the service.
