Teenagers involved in burglaries

Thursday, February 22, 2007

A traffic stop in Cassville has led to the arrest of five individuals who officers allege robbed an Exeter convenience store and attempted a break-in at another store in Wheaton.

On Jan. 30, Cassville Police Officer Bill Watkins conducted a traffic stop within the city limits, and during a search of the vehicle, recovered items match-ing the descriptions of items stolen from a burglary in Exeter.

The traffic stop was made at the same time Barry County Sheriff's Deputy Danny Crabb was taking reports on a burglary that occurred at the Bar Y Convenience store in Exeter and an attempted break-in at the Junction Quick Stop in Wheaton.

Burglars stole over $1,000 in tobacco and snack items from the Exeter store. No items were stolen from the Wheaton location but suspects did attempt to enter the store by breaking the front door window.

Barry County Sheriff's Detective Doug Henry and Deputy Crabb interviewed the subjects involved in the Cassville traffic stop and all subjects involved in the crimes were identified and arrested.

Norman Baez, Jr., 17, of Monett, David Corral, 17, of Butterfield, Dusty Jordon, 17, of Cassville, Brian Gaither, 17, of Cassville, and one juvenile from Cassville were arrested and charged with burglary in the second degree and attempted burglary in the second degree. Jordan and Corral also face charges of theft/stealing.

Currently, the sheriff's department is investigating other crimes where windows were broken in an attempt to burglarize businesses and residences in the Exeter, Wheaton, Purdy and Madry areas. Additional arrests are expected.

Anyone with information concerning these recent burglary attempts should call Detective Henry at 847-3121.
