Ruby Fay Shirley, 88, of Monett, passed away Friday, Feb. 9, 2007, at Monett Health Center.

She was born Jan. 9, 1919, in Winthrop, Ark., to Leroy and Maggie (Hankins) Highbarger. Having spent her early years in Monett, she moved away after grade school She married Virgil William Shirley on Aug. 25, 1933. She was a member of First Christian Church in Purdy for more than 50 years.

She and Virgil returned to Monett in 1998. Virgil preceded her in death in November of 2000, as did one daughter, Leoma (Shirley ) Michael, and a son, Jeral Leslie Shirley.

Survivors include: her brother, Harmon D. Highbarger and wife, Marie, of of Springfield; sons, Dewey D. Shirley, of Prescott. Ariz., and Jimmie D. Shirley and wife, Marilyn, of Monett; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were at the Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home of Monett on Tuesday, with Pastor David Savage, missionary from Costa Rica, officiating.

Burial was at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery north of Butterfield, under the direction of Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home.

It is requested that memorial donations be made to Camp Barnabas. Funds will be collected by the funeral home.
