Lady Bulldogs take home first. The Wheaton Lady Bulldogs took part in the Galena Tournament this week and ended up winning it all. The girls first took on Clever, and behind strong finishes in both the first and second half, they won 40-31. Johanna Baker led scorers in the game with 12. In the next game, Wheaton faced New Covenant Academy, Wheaton was able to hold on for a 39-26 win despite a New Covenant rally. Heather Goostree led scorers with 9 points and Haley Goostree had seven steals as well as 11 assists in the game. In the championship game, the Lady Bulldogs would take on their hosts. Wheaton held the lead for most of the game and sealed the 42-40 victory with Baker's two last second free-throws. Heather Goostree scored 11 points, and both Baker and Haley Goostree were perfect from the free-throw line (4-4) each and had 16 rebounds and six assists respectively. Baker, Heather Goostree and Haley Goostree were named to the All-Tournament team. Haley Goostree earned tournament MVP honors.
Purdy girls finish well in tourney. The Lady Eagles also took part in the Galena Tournament this week and finished in fifth place. Purdy's first round was against Spokane, and the Lady Owls put together good runs down the stretch to beat the Lady Eagles 53-33. Avery Roller led scoring with 15. In Purdy's next game they faced Lutie and pulled away in the second half, beating them 45-32. Sierra Pryor had 16 for the Lady Eagles in the win. In their last game, Purdy took on Clever and beat them soundly by a score of 49-29. Pryor led scoring with 22, and was also named to the All-Tournament team. The Purdy lady Eagles now moves to 6-7 on the season.
McAuley beats Exeter. In one of the few boys' games this week, Exeter fell to Joplin McAuley 70-39. Exeter now moves to 0-11 (0-6) on the season. The Tigers are working hard but still searching for that first win of the season.
