Willard E. Burton, 84, of Nixa, formerly of Barry County, passed away Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, in his home.
He was born Oct. 8, 1922, west of Butterfield, the son of Oliver F. and Lydia Mae (Vineyard) Burton. On May 25, 1947, he was united in marriage to Alene Church, who survives. Additional survivors include: two sons, Richard Burton and his wife, Carol, of Nixa, and Gregory Burton and his wife, Barbara, of Chillicothe; eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and four brothers.
He received his education at Clark, Purdy and Wheaton. He then attended college at Monett and at the University of Missouri in Columbia. He had been employed at the Monett Times, Barry County Advertiser and the Cassville Democrat. For 30 years he was in business with Emory Melton as co-owner and operator of Litho Printing Company. He had resided in Nixa the last four years.
During World War II he served in the United States Army.
He was a member of Cassville First Baptist Church, where funeral services were held Monday under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Rev. John Duncan conducted the services. Burial with military honors was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cassville.
