Wreaths provide college scholarships

Thursday, November 2, 2006

Dear Editor:

With the thermometer reading near 80 degrees, it seems impossible to believe that we are thinking about the Christmas season and Crowder College Watley Center's second annual Festival of Wreaths. This year the auction is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 1.

Much planning and preparation must go into a project such as this; therefore, we are starting early to contract those of you who have so generously decorated items in the past. Some wreaths will be sold through silent auction, others by live auction, along with a few door prizes and a raffle in ensure the evening is memorable.

Jon Horner has graciously agreed to conduct the auction. Last year, we raised nearly $700 to be used for scholarships for students attending the Watley Center through the auctioning of just 16 wreaths and centerpieces. We hope, with your help, to exceed that amount this year.

As in the past, a committee member will deliver a wreath to your business by Oct. 30. Please return the enclosed postcard with your preference of greenery or if you have special instruction. If you choose to provide your own wreath, please indicate so on the card. If you are unable to help this year, please contact Darla Horner by oct. 25 at 417-847-5268 or 417-846-5200 and we will remove your name from the list for this year, but will remain hopeful that you will be able to help again next year.

The Crowder College Foundation is incredibly blessed to have businesses and individuals willing to support this worthy endeavor. We look forward to viewing your new creations; your creativity truly never ceases to amaze us. It's special people like you who will make this year's Festival of Wreaths a success.

Any business or individual interested in participating in this event is asked to contact Darla Horner at 847-5268 or 846-5200.
