A pair of Cassville varsity runners medaled at the competitive Patriot Invitational cross country meet held at East Newton last Tuesday.
In the varsity girls race, sophomore Tia Baker finished 18th out of 89 runners to medal. She finished the course in 21:39. Ron'L Hoff was close behind in 22:44 followed by Misty Long (22:52), Cheyann Essley (25:46) and Courtney Beagle (24:22).
Ryan Hamilton led the Wildcat varsity boys with a 20th place finish out of 97 runners. He ran the course in 17:55. Other finishers for Cassville were Willie Linenbrink (20:52) and Kelly Walsh (20:20).
In the middle school boys race, Gage Holloway brought home the 11th place medal, finishing the mile and a half course in 9:50. Other middle boys finishers for Cassville were: Austin Deffenbaugh (11:53); Ben Crawford (13:09), Kendall Cooper (13:08), Garrett Barnes (12:37), Lane Weldy (12:24) and Drew Chadd (16:08).
CMS Ladycat runners included Calisia Brookes (14:57) and Jessica Barrientos (14:50).
"We had several kids run personal bests," said Coach Chris Shore.
The host Patriots won the boys team title with the Nixa Eagles coming in second. Neosho earned the top spot on the girls' side.
Southwest and Purdy also competed at the cross country meet. Caleb Mitchell of Southwest was the top Trojan runner, finishing in 12th place with a time of 17:23. Other Southwest boys' medalists were Logan Pendergraft, 23rd, 18:02; and Dustin Breedlove, 24th, 18:06.
In the girls race, Tammy Tiles of Purdy was the top area finisher in ninth place with a time of 21:10. Charlotte Buttrum of Southwest also brought home a medal, finishing right behind Baker in 19th place with a time of 21:42.
