John Wendell Salyer, 87, of Cassville, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2006, in South Austin Hospital, Austin, Texas.

He was born June 10, 1919, in Cassville, the son of Dr. Glenn and Edith (Horine) Salyer. On June 11, 1987, in Sarcoxie, he was united in marriage to Patrica Hunt, who survives.

Additional survivors include: one son, Don Allen Salyer, of Austin, Texas; one daughter, Sylvia Gay Krulger, of Smithville, Texas, and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles.

He received his education in Cassville, graduating from Cassville High School in 1937, when the school was still located on the hill where the water towers are now. He played saxophone in the band and also played basketball and football. After high school he studied dentistry in Louisville, Ky. He was a dentist 50 years, retiring in Cassville in December 1991.

From 1943 until 1948 he served in the United States Army.

Graveside services with military honors were held at Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cassville, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Chris McCurley conducted the services.
