Alta Stamps Coffey, 100, passed away Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006. She was born Nov. 21, 1905, in Ridgley, the daughter of Calvin and Girtha Higgs Stamps.

On Aug. 14, 1924, she was married to Tom Coffey. He preceded her in death in October 1984.

Survivors include: two sons, Tommy Coffey and his wife, Cookie, of Kansas City, and George Coffey and his wife, Marilyn, of Ridgley, one daughter, Donna Coffey Baker, of Springfield; one sister, Ama Hawkins, of Granby; 13 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and 22 great great grandchildren.

She was a member of the Ridgley Southern Baptist Church for close to 60 years and taught Sunday School for 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Alma Christian, Ava Cunningham, and Ada Cunningham; one brother, Seth, Stamps; one son, Garland; and two daughters, Norma Garrison and Virginia Coffey.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Ridgley Southern Baptist Church. There will be no formal visitation, but friends may view after noon on Wednesday at the Wheaton Funeral Home in Wheaton. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery in Exeter.
