Dr. C. Glenn Douthitt, 80, of Blue Eye, formerly of Monett, passed away Friday, Sept. 22, 2006, at the Skaggs Memorial Hospital in Branson. He was born on Dec. 28, 1925, in Richie, the son of the late Clyde Earl and Bertha O. Mitchell Douthitt.
He served in WWII in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Pierce City. He was married to Garelean (Gary) Williams on June 18, 1947, in Columbus, Kan., and she preceded him in death on Dec. 29, 1996.
He held a partnership in Gambles store in Pierce City until the summer of 1956. He graduated with the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery at the University of Kansas City in 1962. He practiced in Monett until retiring in 1987. He also raised beef cattle, built two stock-car race tracks in Monett and Fayetteville, Ark., and later acquired the Joplin Speedway.
Survivors include: two sons, Terry Douthitt and his wife, Cindy, of Kiowa, Okla., and James David Douthitt, of Blue Eye.; one daughter, Andra Douthitt,of Kimberling City; one sister, Betty Lou Miller and her husband, Leonard, of Great Bent, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held today (Wednesday) in the First Congregational Church in Pierce City, with the Dr. Sam Smith officiating. Burial was at the Pierce City Cemetery. Arrangements were by Bennett -Wormington Funeral Home in Monett.
