Dixie J. Harter, 84, of Purdy, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006, in Lacoba Homes, Inc., Monett.

She was born Jan. 2, 1922, in Granby, the daughter of Louis E. and Mary L. (Mesplay) Russell. In 1941 at Fairview, she was united in marriage to Harold W. Harter, who preceded her in death in 1993. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include: three sons, Bill Harter, of Purdy, Bob Harter and his wife, Carolyn, of Tulsa, Okla., and Jim Harter and his wife, Marsha, of Nashville, Tenn.; a daughter, Becky Neal and her husband, Daren, of Springfield; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She received her education in Granby, where she graduated from High School. She lived a few years in Republic, but lived most of her life in Purdy. She was a homemaker while Harold operated their store, the D & H Hardware Store in Purdy. She attended the Good Shepherd Church of the Brethren in Springfield.

Graveside services were Saturday at Dice Cemetery, Fairview, under direction of McQueen Funeral Home, Wheaton. Brother Steve Higgs conducted the services.
