A large crowd of community members turned out to tour the brand new 10,000-square-foot Jack Byrd Rehabilitation and Wellness Center at St. John's Hospital in Cassville on Sept. 10.
Hospital President Gary Jordan started the event by thanking all of the co-workers, community members and businesses that donated funds to the rehabilitation and wellness center project.
"We also want to thank those that are not with us today," said Jordan. "We want to thank Jack Byrd for donating funds so many years ago and the local board for helping us see this project become a reality."
A formal dedication and ribbon cutting were also held before the Wellness Center was opened to the public.
St. John's cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy staff members gave tours of the facility and demonstrated many of the pieces of equipment available at the wellness center.
The Jack Byrd Wellness Center features four physical therapy rooms, a whirlpool room, two speech therapy rooms, an occupational therapy room, an occupational therapy kitchen, a cardiac rehab education room and a large cardiopulmonary rehab area.
Equipment available in the facility includes an indoor walking track, a stacked weight system, treadmills, stair steppers, climbers and exercise bicycles.
Nearly $300,000 has been donated to the Wellness Center. The funds were used to renovate the facility, which is located in the basement of the Cassville hospital, and purchase new equipment.
"The total project is nearing $1 million with the equipment that has been added," said Jordan. "We would like to be able to add additional equipment to the facility in the future."
The hospital is seeking additional donations to fund telemetry monitors, four treadmills, two exercise bicycles and other exercise equipment.
The Jack Byrd Rehabilitation and Wellness Center will be open to the public from 5 to 8 a.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 7 to 11 a.m. on Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Wellness Center member-ship fees are $25 per month for an individual and $30 per month for a family.
A nurse will be on duty in the rehabilitation center during client monitoring hours, which are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 8 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday.
