The Cassville Ladycat volleyball squad won their home opener last Thursday night against Blue Eye. Cassville won the first game easily by a score of 25-16. In the second game, Blue Eye came back and defeated the Ladycats 17-25. Cassville battled back and won the third game 25-22.
Senior Chelsea Corn led the team with 12 kills and 15 digs. Senior Holley Skinner was strong from the service line, tallying 17 service points and five aces. Olivia Cline, freshman setter, racked up 14 assists, and senior Abby Munoz had three blocks.
The junior varsity squad also picked up a win over Blue Eye by scores of 25-13 and 25-16. The victory marked the JV's first in two years.
Last Tuesday, the Lady-cats travelled to McDonald County and fell in three games. Cassville won the first game 25-19 and then lost the next two by scores of 22-25 and 17-25.
Junior Katie Hynes made her presence known on the court with five kills and 11 digs. Cline was credited with eight assists and Munoz added two blocks. Freshman Marti Richmiller contributed two aces.
The Ladycats, who are now 1-1 on the young season, compete in the Willard High School Lori Endicott Invitational this Saturday and then host Carl Junction on Sept. 12 and Mt. Vernon on Sept. 14.
At Willard, Cassville will compete in the black pool against Savannah, Mt. Vernon, Salem and Willard with games at 8 a.m., 9 a.m., noon and 3 p.m. Teams competing in the white pool are Buffalo, Lamar, Jefferson City, Nevada and Kickapoo.
