The 56th annual Fiddlers Contest will be held in Golden on Saturday, Aug. 26. The popular event begins with a barbecue dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. followed by the contest at 7:30 p.m. All events are held on the grounds of the Golden Community Building.
For over five decades, the Golden Circle Shores Asso-ciation has sponsored the contest as a way to raise money for maintenance of the old Golden School, which now serves as a community building.
Contestants are not charged a fee to enter the contest. The top three fiddlers in the adult and junior divisions will be awarded cash prizes and trophies.
This year, the contest will feature a "pickers" division for adults and juniors. Cash prizes and trophies will also be awarded to the top three contestants in this category.
Meals will be sold for a nominal fee, and the cost to attend the Fiddlers Contest is $3 per adult and $1 for children under 12. Youngsters under 5 are admitted free.
All area residents are encouraged to come out and enjoy an evening of good food and music. Brightwater Junc-tion band will also perform.
