Football fever returns to Cassville

Thursday, August 17, 2006

Wildcat fans get ready. Football season is right around the corner.

This Friday, black and gold uniforms will return to the field for the annual inter-squad scrimmage. This anticipated game will begin at 7 p.m.

It will be preceded by the fifth annual Cassville High School Alumni Football Game at 6 p.m.

This year, Coach David Large is restricting play to alumni who are 25 or older. The cost to participate is $20 per player. Proceeds from the game support the Wildcat football program.

The game will feature 20-minute halves with a running clock. Alumni who graduated in odd years will play against alumni who graduated in even years.

All interested players should pick up a registration form from the high school office or from Coach Large. Forms have also been distributed to area businesses.

In addition to the alumni game, Coach Large is planning another event for former football players and any other Wildcat football supporter.

On Saturday, Aug. 19, Cassville Golf Club will play host to the first annual Football Kick-off Golf Scramble.

The 18-hole tournament will feature a shot gun start at 8 a.m. The entry fee is $40 per player for golf club members and $55 per player for non-members. Prizes will be awarded based on the number of entries.

Large said he hopes out-of-town alumni will make plans to travel back to Cassville on the weekend of Aug. 18 and 19 to participate in the alumni football game and the Wildcat golf tournament.

For more information about the tournament or to sign up, contact Randy Meadows, Cassville golf course manager, at 847-2399.
