Cassville Baseball is hosting state Babe Ruth tournament
The Cassville Baseball League will have the honor of hosting the 2006 Junior Babe Ruth State Tournament next week.
Four days of games are planned at the Cassville's Wildcat Field on the Cassville High School campus, according to Trish Vaught, event coordinator and Cassville Baseball League president.
Teams from all seven districts in Missouri will travel to Cassville to compete in the tournament, which kicks off on July 27. Games will be played daily with the championship match-up scheduled for Sunday, July 30.
Cassville is one of only eight teams to advance to state level tournament play. The winner of the state tournament advances to the regional tournament. Ultimately, teams are competing for the right to continue on toward the World Series tournament.
Southwest Missouri will be represented by teams from Cassville, Aurora and Lebanon.
The tournament will include several special events. A players picnic, sponsored by George's, will be held on Friday, July 28, and there will be a tournament breakfast offered on Thursday, July 27 at the Over the Hill Grill at the Cassville Golf Course.
According to Vaught, 250 players will participate in the tournament. Many of the players will be housed at The Ark in Eagle Rock and HIS Children's Camp in Ridgley.
All area baseball fans are encouraged to attend the tournament, which is open to the general public.
