Walter O. Lyons, 81, of Cassville, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2006, in St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield.
He was born Feb. 4, 1925, in Rogers, Ark., the son of Donald and Alta (Skaggs) Lyons. On Dec. 18, 1947, in Inman, Neb., he was united in marriage to Jean Calkins, who survives.
Survivors include: two sons, Gary Lyons and his wife, Barbara, of Edmond, Okla., and Larry Lyons and his wife, Patricia, of Exeter; two daughters, Jo Writer, of Cassville, and Christy Jane Creamer and her husband, Ernie, of Monett; two brothers, Bill Lyons, of Page, Neb., and Leroy Lyons, of Cozad, Neb.; a sister, Betty Coffey, of Penrose, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Cathy Jean; one sister, Alta Mae Grett and one great-grandson, Joseph Lyons.
He received his education in Kansas City. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. After his discharge from the Navy, he lived in Nebraska where he met Jean. He was a telephone transmission repair-man and lived in various states working for company built telephone lines. He moved to Missouri where he worked for Southwest Dial and then Contel until his retirement in 1985.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Wayne Deffenbaugh conducted the services. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cassville.
