He was born in Portsmouth, Va., on May 9, 1969, the son of Jack Francis and Linda Louise (Groves) Horner, of Cassville. He was a Cassville High School graduate, class of 1987.
He worked as a supply sergeant with the 4th ID1-66th Armored Division. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Persian Gulf. He also served in the U.S. Army as a SSG in the Iraqi Freedom. He received the following: Army Commendation medal; Army Achievement medal (2nd award)/Navy Unit Commendation; Army good Conduct medal (3rd award); Navy Good Conduct medal; National Defense Service medal/Southwest Asia Service medal with Bronze Service Star; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary medal; Global War on Terrorism Service medal; Korea Defense Service Medal (2nd award); Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd award); Navy Sea Service Deployment Ribbon; Ku-Lib-Mdl (Kuwait); Driver and Mechanic Badge-Mechanic.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Elsie Louise Groves.
Survivors include: his wife, Melissa Dawn (Shockley) Horner, of Copperas Cove, Texas; stepdaughters, Ashley Drechney, of Copperas Cove, Texas, Casey Drechney, of Copperas Cove, Texas, Ashley Young, of Clarksville, Tenn., and Heather Bing, of Norman, Okla.; Stepson, Jordan Drechney, of Copperas Cove, Texas; sisters, Christine Sabatino, of Parkersburg, W.V., and Melody Webb, of Cassville; brothers, Jeff Horner, Cassville, Max Horner, of Arkansas; grandparents, L.L. Groves, Jr. and his wife, Velma, of Portland, Maine.
Burial with full military honors was June 15 at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield.
