Rodeo action returns
A nationally acclaimed comedian will headline the Cassville Rotary Club's 69th annual rodeo on Friday and Saturday night. Rodeo action begins nightly at 8 p.m. at Bill Hailey Arena on Business 37 north of Cassville.
Punkintown Smith, the 2004 Christian Country Music Award Comedian of the Year, will provide entertainment in between exciting rodeo action that culminates with bull riding each night.
Smith is currently touring with Dodge World's Toughest Bulls and Broncs Tour and is scheduled to appear at the 2006 Cheyenne Frontier Days. He is also a former world champion clogger.
"He brings a lot of laughter and good clean fun to any rodeo," said Stan Kelley, chairman of the Cassville Rotary Rodeo Committee.
According to Kelley, over 165 cowboys and cowgirls have signed up for the two nights of rodeo events, which include bareback, saddlebronc, calf roping, team roping, steer wrestling, cowgirl barrel racing and the always popular bull riding.
"We will again have some of the top 10 ranked cowboys performing in their respective events at the rodeo," said Kelley. "We should see some excellent performances."
Hampton Rodeo Co., of Springdale, Ark., will produce this year's IPRA/ACRA-sanctioned rodeo. Hampton is known as one of the top rodeo stock contractors in the nation. His stock has been in the IPRA National Finals Rodeo for the past nine years.
The rodeo will also include a calf scramble, with a cash prize, for children under 10. This event will be held each night of the rodeo.
Rodeo tickets can be purchased in advance from any Rotarian with a $1 discount. Admission charged at the gate will be $8 for adults and $4 for children under 4.
"The Rotary Club invites you to come and see some fast action and exciting rodeo performances," said Kelley. "Your support is greatly appreciated."
The Rotary Rodeo is one of the club's major fundraisers of the year.
