Cassville High School will be represented by two athletes at the Class 3 state tournament, which will be held in Jefferson City on Friday and Saturday.
Nick Pianalto will compete in discus after winning the gold medal at sectionals last Saturday at Ozark. The junior recorded a throw of 155'7" to lead the field.
Senior Kyle Bishop advances to the state tournament after tying for second in the high jump at sectional competition. Bishop cleared 6'2" to tie with three other jumpers. The gold medalist jumped 6'4", a height Bishop jumped the week before to win the district gold medal.
This will be Bishop's third trip to state, and Pianalto's first. Last year, Bishop finished fourth at state by clearing 6'4", and in 2004, he placed 13th with a jump of 6'2".
In the fall, Bishop will become a member of the track and field team at Central Methodist University in Fayette.
The Wildcat boys' track team is coached by David Large.
