The Cassville Wildcat varsity golf team had an impressive showing at the Sonic Invitational Tournament at Carthage last week.
The squad finished in third place with a team score of 322, just seven strokes behind the hosts. Senior Dylan Vogt led Cassville with a 78, which placed him seventh among individual golfers.
Derek Neill, another senior, and sophomore Ryan Stockton both shot 81 while sophomore Laith Hayward shot an 82 and freshman Taylor Vanzandt shot a 91.
"This is the best we have played as a team," said Coach Lance Parnell. "I hope we can keep things going in this direction and improve each time out as we prepare for districts."
The Wildcats will compete in the Big 8 Conference tournament on April 27 at Mt. Vernon with the district meet scheduled for May 4 at Carthage. Cassville will close out its regular season of play by hosting a tournament on May 10.
Cassville jayvee golfers played at the Aurora Tournament last Thursday and took fifth place competing against area varsity teams.
Cassville shot a 379 led by Jake Rader's 87. Carl Junction won the meet with a team score of 318.
Other scores posted by Wildcat players were; Brandon Banks and Steven Gerleve, 95; Clint Reed, 102; and Pate Shumaker, 112.
"I am very proud of these young men," said Coach Parnell. "To go to a varsity tournament and compete and finish fifth is great. They gained some great experience that will help us the next couple of years."
The JV team will play on Monday home versus Monett and Aurora.
