CHS golfers reach midpoint of season
The Cassville golf team is midway through the 2006 season under the directon of Coach Lance Parnell.
The varsity squad opened play in the Neosho Tournament on March 27 with a second place team finish. Dylan Vogt shot a 77 and Derek Neill shot a 80 to lead the Wildcats.
Laith Hayward and Taylor Vanzandt were best ball team and Ryan Stockton and Kyle Mills were the scramble team.
"This was a great way to begin the season with a second place finish out of 19 schools," said Coach Parnell.
On April 3, the team competed in the Republic Tournament at Island Green and finished in fourth place. Individual scores were: Vogt, 84; Neill, 85; Hayward, 86; Vanzandt, 88; and Stockton, 92.
Cassville also finished fourth at the Reeds Spring Tournament, which was held at Ledgestone. Neill was the ninth place individual medalist, shooting an 80. Other individual scores were: Vogt, 85; Hayward, 86; Vanzandt, 91; and Kory Bollinger, 94.
At a four-team, 18-hole meet at Carthage, Cassville placed second. Vogt led the Wildcats with 80 followed by Hayward with an 85, Stockton with 89 and Vanzandt and Neill with 90.
On April 17, Wildcat golfers competed in the highly competitive Bolivar Tournament at Silo Ridge. Neill and Vogt scored 74 in best ball competition, and Stockton and Mills posted a 72 in the scramble. Bollinger shot a 94 and Hayward shot an 88 in the tournament.
Today (Wednesday), Cass-ville varsity golfers will compete in the Sonic Invitational at Carthage. The jayvee squad will travel to Honey Creek in Aurora for a tournament on Thursday.
