Glen Buttrum rolled to an easy victory in the 3,200-meter run, as the Southwest Trojans opened the 2006 track season at Carthage on March 31.
"We scored in a number of events, I was very pleased with the early season performances," said Lee Stubblefield, Southwest's veteran coach.
The Trojans were on the board early. Both the girls' and boys' 3,200-meter relay teams placed sixth. Charlotte Buttrum, Katrina Harmon, Jessica Mitchell and Alex Dusseau combined for a time of 11:32.5, and the boys' quartet of Luke Hackett, Dustin Breedlove, Logan Pendergraft and Glen Buttrum rolled to a 9:24.56 clocking.
Charlotte Buttrum ran a personal best in the girls' 1,600-meter race, taking fourth in 6:14. Freshman Alex Dusseau placed sixth in the girls' 800-meter dash in 2:41.6.
Southwest's cross country tradition was evident in the boys' 3,200-meter race, with Glen Buttrum winning in 10:39 and Logan Pendergraft placing sixth in 11:16.6.
Southwest's next meet is at Marionville on April 6.
