The majority of county officeholders will run unopposed in the August primary unless additional candidates file for office.
Tuesday marked the first day to file for county office and only one office is contested so far. Incumbent County Clerk Gary Youngblood has re-filed for office and he will be challenged by Jan Enloe, of Cassville, a political newcomer.
Youngblood is not the only incumbent to seek another term. Presiding Commissioner Cherry Warren, Prosecuting Attorney Johnnie Cox, Collector Janice Varner, Treasurer Lois Lowe, Circuit Clerk Craig Williams and Division II Associate Circuit Judge Carr Woods all declared their intentions to run again.
The only new name on the candidate list, besides Enloe, is Monett attorney Victor Head who is running for Division I associate circuit judge. Michael Garrett announced his plans to retire at the end of his term this year, and Head is seeking to fill his seat.
All the candidates who filed on Tuesday are Republicans. As of 5 p.m. on Feb. 28, no candidates had filed on the Democrat ticket.
The last day to file for county office is March 28. The primary election will be held on Aug. 8.
