Cassville came out of the gates a little slowly as they were
outscored 13-2 at the end of the first quarter. The Ladycats turned it up a notch in the second quarter, outscoring East Newton 12-9.
The Ladycats outscored East Newton 15-10 in the third, but it wouldn't hold up, as East Newton led the Ladycats 23-19 in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
The Ladycats were led in scoring by Julie Cupps with 16 points. That output included four three-pointers. Jessie Gripka followed Cupps with 12 points. The junior was also hot from behind the arc, scoring two treys. Brittany Vollenweider scored 9 points, Gabby LeCompte scored 7 points and Abby Munoz had 4.
The Ladycats end regular season play on Thursday when they host the Lady Indians of Seneca.
District play is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at Aurora. Cassville, seeded third in the district tournament, will play sixth-seeded Reeds Spring at 7:30 p.m.
If the Ladycats win, they advance to a semi-final match up against second-seeded Aurora at 7:30 p.m. The championship game will be played at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25.
