Esther Lorena Daugherty, 87, passed away at 11:35 p.m, Saturday, February 11, 2006, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield.
Esther was born on May 21, 1918 in Trenton, Nebraska, to Everett and Edith (Hovey) Silver. She was a retired bookkeeper and clerk for the MFA Grocery and Feed Store, and a member of the Mt. Vernon First Baptist Church. Esther always put others first, visited various nursing homes, right up to the very last, made many phone calls to people, was always in church and still helped take care of her children and grandchildren.
On June 12, 1936, she married M. W. (Morris) Daugherty in Barry County. He preceded her in death on May 10, 1996. Her parents, one son, Billy Daugherty, two brothers and one sister also preceded her in death.
Survivors include: two daughters, Donna Thompson and husband, Forrest, Stotts City and Mary Hansen and husband, Ken, Nisswa, Minnesota; one son, Jack Daugherty and wife, Carolyn, Mt. Vernon; one brother, Van Silver and wife, Vera Mae, Wentworth, eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, six step great-grandchildren, two step great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Services, under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon, were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, in the Mt. Vernon First Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Gilmore and Rev. Dennis Zmek officiating. Burial followed in the Washburn Prairie Cemetery, Washburn, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Endowment Fund in care of the funeral home.
