At around 1:30 p.m. last Thursday, Cassville firefighters responded to a brush fire off of Business 37 north of Barry Electric. According to Cassville Fire Chief Millard Andrews, the fire spread to 15 to 20 acres of underbrush, but fire crews were able to keep it away from nearby homes. A storage building was lost in the fire, which took about three hours to contain. Cassville was assisted in their firefighting effort by the Butterfield and Exeter fire departments and the Missouri Department of Conservation. Andrews said the fire was caused by "people's carelessness." He also reminded area residents that a county-wide burn ban remains in effect. Democrat Photo
