William Jennings Eckhardt, 77, of Cassville, passed away Monday, Dec. 12, 2005, in his home.

He was born March 5, 1928, to John Henry and Ethel Eckhardt in Marionville. His father died when he was four and his brother, Jack, was eight, their mother raised the boys by herself. They attended Marionville Grade School and High School at School of the Ozarks. Bill graduated in 1946, always very proud of his time at the school. He and a friend, Derald Meyer, hitchhiked to Wichita, Kan., to join a harvest crew going north. They didn't make the fortune they planned on and came back to Wichita. In 1950 Bill started working for Beech Aircraft and continued working there for 40 years.

In 1980 he was married to Maree Hall in Augusta, Kan., where they resided until he retired in 1990 and moved to Cassville. They celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary on Nov. 22.

survivors include: his wife, Maree; three stepchildren, Janis Leayman, Ron Hall, Linda Cales, all of Colorado; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; his brother, Jack and sister-in-law, Betty, of Florida.

He was a member of the Christian Church since childhood and had been attending Mill street Church of Christ when he was able. He was a member of the Golden Harvest Club of Cassville.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville, Missouri. Burial will be at IOOF Cemetery, Marionville.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) in Fohn Funeral Home.
