Center desperately needs meal drivers

Monday, November 28, 2005

Dear Editor:

The Cassville Senior Center is in desperate need of meal drivers.

We are very proud of our center, and we serve a tremendous need every day for our seniors. We served 55,524 meals last year from July 1,2004, to June 30, 2005. Meals on Wheels delivers meals five days a week to seniors who are homebound. Our goal is to keep them independent for as long as it is feasible for them. If it was not for the meals, many would go hungry. Most are not able to cook, or have special needs to control their diet.

We currently have 14 meal drivers that deliver every day, five days a week. Some have delivered meals for years and are just tired. We desperately need new drivers to take one route, one day a week. We pay 36 cents per mile. The job comes with great satisfaction that you have helped someone in need. You get to meet new people in many cases would not see another person all week. We feel that our seniors are very special people and that our work is very rewarding.

All it takes is one hour average, one day a week. We depend tremendously on our volunteers. If you would like to help please call Linda Parker, Conya Rupp or Opal Santee at 847-4510, or come by 1111 Fair Street in Cassville. We are next to the Crowder College Watley Center.
