Letter to the Editor

R-III board member seeks voter understanding

Thursday, November 17, 2005

To the Registered Voters of the Wheaton School District:

On Nov. 8, 2005, I received this letter from "John Q. Public." The letter states the following:

"Dear Mr. Goostree: On May 20, 2004, you committed nepotism by voting to hire your father. Lowell McInturff made the motion to hire your father for bus mechanic and transportation director for the 04-05 school year and Larry Butler seconded the motion. The vote was 6-0 with six members attending and none abstained. You have yet to do the right thing for our school. You know the penalty for nepotism. If you choose not to do it, know that this letter and minutes from that meeting will be sent to the newspapers. Sincerely, John Q. Public.

I would like to thank "John Q. Public" for bringing this to my attention. After receiving the minutes from the meeting, I realize I was guilty of committing nepotism. The punishment for this is to resign your seat, so that is what I did on 11-9-2005.

I would like to apologize to the people who voted for me for my ignorance on this matter. I had only been on the board a month when this vote took place. I have learned much more in the year and a half that I have been on the board, and I won't make this mistake again. I will be running for re-election in April, and I would appreciate your vote.
