R-IV District wants no parent left behind

Thursday, November 3, 2005

Dear Editor:

It is no secret that children learn at a very quick pace during the first few years of life. Who do they rely on? Who has the most influence on their development? Their parents, of course. Our school district wants to equip all parents with the knowledge and support they need. They want no parent left behind.

You can make a difference in our community and in the life of your child. Make the choice to be involved in "Parents as Teachers." This program is open to any child from birth to age three.

My parent adviser left me with many useful tips on how I could create a more caring and nurturing environment. I attended group meetings that allowed me the opportunity to meet other parents with children of a similar age. My participation in the program ensured an easy transition into school by participating in the "Kindergarten Days" held at our elementary school.

I can't help but wonder, if kids who participated in the program have an advantage over those who do not. Are dropout rates lower among those who have enrolled? Don't be left behind! Call Ms. Challie or Teri today at 847-4029. You can make a difference.

Sincerely,

Cheri Shumaker
