Area runners shine at Cassville Invitational

Cassville hosted its annual Cassville Invitational cross country meet last Monday with 13 schools competing.

The Ladycat squad finished fourth as a team behind a trio of medalists. Freshman Courtney Beagle finished seventh with a time of 22:23 and sophomore Ron'L Hoff was close behind in ninth with a time of 22:30. Tia Baker, another freshman runner, finished 14th in 19:34.

Brittany Wilbanks finished 29th in a time of 26:24 followed by Ariell Abramovitz in 30th (26:26) and Gabby LeCompte in 50th (27:22).

Other top female finishers from the area were: Alex Dusseau, Southwest, 12th, 27:58; Tammy Tiles, Purdy, 13th, 23:00; Charlotte Buttrum, Southwest, 19th, 23:26; Katrina Harmon, Southwest, 23rd, 23:47;

The Cassville boys varsity squad finished fifth overall at the Cassville meet. Top finishers for the Wildcats were Ryan Pace in 26th (19:26), Chris Borne in 27th (19:33 and Shane Beck in 28th (19:43).

The top team in the boys' division was Berryville, Ark. Southwest finished fourth overall. Glen Buttrum, of Southwest, was the meet's silver medalist with a time of 17:24.

Other area finishers in the boys race were: Logan Pendergraft, Southwest, seventh, 18:14; Kyle Buttrum, Southwest, 14th, 18:53; Chris Musick, Wheaton, 25th, 19:24; Luke Hackett, Southwest, 34th, 19:58; Trenton Patton, Purdy, 40th, 20:17; Sean Crane, Wheaton, 42nd, 20:27; Codie Harmon, Southwest, 43rd, 20:47; Sam Vice, Purdy, 50th, 21:28; Ryan Veith, Purdy, 52nd, 21:35; Chad Dwight, Purdy, 58th, 22:27; Nick Mercer, Purdy, 59th, 22:28; Clinton Colling, Purdy, 60th, 22:34; and Terre Brown, Purdy, 71st, 27:06.

In the junior varsity boys run, Cassville freshman Corey Wilbanks finished second with a time of 20:58. Josh Stubblefield placed seventh (22:17).

"Our kids ran well, and our invitational was a success," said Coach Chris Shore.

Several Cassville Middle School runners also had strong showings at the Cassville meet.

Mathew Angel was 11th in the junior high boys race and Bryan Schroeder medalled in 13th place.

Wilson, Southwest, 43rd, 10:29; Jordan Bailey, Cassville, 50th, 10:51; Josiah Jones, Purdy, 52nd, 10:59; Jamie Musick, Wheaton, 53rd, 11:01; Dentin Schwartz, Wheaton, 55th, 11:20; Blake Dilbeck, Wheaton, 57th, 11:28; Scott Klein, Purdy, 58th, 11:32; Corey Nalley, Southwest, 64th, 12:32; and Darren Medley, Wheaton, 73rd, 19:14.

Jessica Barrientos, of Cassville, earned 19th place in the junior high girls race. Other area finishers were: Cheyenne Blevins, Southwest, 26th, 11:16; Aleesa Randall, Southwest, 27th, 11:24; Rachel Russell, Wheaton, 28th, 11:28; Stephanie Brown, Purdy, 50th, 13:15; and Samantha Pierce, Wheaton, 51st, 13:24.

The varsity boys and girls cross country squads will compete Thursday at the Big 8 Conference meet in Monett.

"We are healthy and running out best at the right time of the season," said Shore.
