Wednesday, October 5, 2005

The Ladycat varsity cross country squad had a strong showing at East Newton last Tuesday.

Sophomore Ron'L Hoff medaled in 18th place, running the course in 21:30. Following close behind Hoff were freshmen Courtney Beagle and Tia Baker, who just missed a medal by finishing in 22nd and 29th place respectively.

In the boys varsity race, junior Shane Beck was Cassville's top finisher in 32nd place. His time was 17:53.

Freshman Ryan Pace competed in the junior varsity race and had an outstanding finish. He placed second with a time of 18:29.

Middle school runners from Cassville also had strong performances at East Newton. Mathew Angel finished sixth and Bryan Schroeder was eighth with both young runners bringing home medals. Jessica Barrientos medaled in the girls' race, finishing 10th.

"Our kids are continuing to improve and work hard," said Coach Chris Shore. "Almost everyone ran a personal best at East Newton."

Wildcat runners are now preparing for the Cassville Invitational, which will be held on the cross country course behind the high school on Monday, Oct. 10. Cassville then travels to Southwest for a meet on Oct. 13.
