A shift within the structure of Cassville's banking community was announced last week with Jon Horner being named president of Security Bank of Southwest Missouri.
Horner joins the Security Bank team after working for Commerce Bank of Barry County since 1987. In making the announcement, Gary Fields said he would be remaining as Security Bank's chief executive officer.
As chief executive officer, Fields will remain actively involved in overseeing the direction and philosophy of Security Bank, while Horner, as president, will eventually oversee all parts of the daily operation of the bank.
The new partnership will allow both local bankers to realize their dreams.
"This is a merging of our two goals and our dreams while maintaining Security Bank's philosophy," said Horner. "Gary's goal is to continue to be an independent hometown banker but to eventually reduce his day-to-day responsibilities. My goal is to be a community banker, where decisions are made locally, in my hometown. This is a perfect match of our shared goals."
Fields is quick to reassure his customers that Security Bank will continue to function like an independent hometown bank for hometown people.
"I will continue to be involved in influencing the policy and overall direction of the bank for the rest of my life," Fields said. "Security Bank customers will continue to receive the same great service and responsiveness to their financial needs as they have grown accustomed to. This will be based upon our philosophy of offering great service at a reasonable rate."
Horner, who is a graduate of Cassville High School like Fields, has been an active member of the Cassville community for almost two decades. He has served as president of the Cassville Area Chamber of Commerce, as a board member of South Barry County Hospital, as a member of the Cassville Industrial Development Corporation and as co-chairman of the Cassville School Facilities Expansion Committee.
"Having been born and raised in Barry County, Jon understands the importance of knowing your community and playing an active role in its growth and success," said Fields. "Jon and I are looking forward to putting our banking experience together for our customers, bank staff and community.
"We will continue to look for ways to grow and expand the bank to meet the growth of the community," Fields continued.
Security Bank of Southwest Missouri is headquartered in Cassville with additional locations in Exeter and Wheaton.
