Local meteorologists predicted that afternoon temperatures would soar to 70 degrees on March 1, but the 1,839 anglers who gathered along the stream at Roaring River State Park were greeted with a crisp, cool morning on Opening Day. The Cassville Senior Citizens Rental Housing Corporation has received a federal Housing Assistance Council grant that will fund energy efficiency improvements at the senior apartments located off of Townsend in Cassville. "Our USDA servicing agent sent me a link for the grant, and I applied for it in December (2011)," said Jennifer Evans, Cassville Senior Citizens Rental Housing manager. The Purdy R-2 Board of Education hired Dr. Steven Chancelor as the district's new superintendent, succeeding Jerry Lingo, who is retiring. Chancelor was selected during the Monday board meeting and came to Purdy on Tuesday to sign the contract. Purdy board members received applications from 15 candidates screened for the district by the Missouri School Boards Association. Cassville FASCO plant employees had the opportunity to celebrate another year of hard work with catered lunches on Feb. 28. The local plant received its fourth consecutive Regal Beloit SAFE Award this year. Allied Waste to change recyclable collections (03/07/12)
On Monday night, the Cassville City Council received information on changes that will be made to Allied Waste's recycling services. The city contracts with the company to provide trash and recyclable material collections. According to a letter released by Allied Waste, scheduled pick-up weeks for recyclable items will change beginning March 9. In the future, recyclables will be collected once every four weeks instead of once a month...
