Address numbers must be posted

Posted Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at 9:59 AM

Cassville property owners are reminded that they must post visible address numbers on their structures to ensure emergency responders can locate them.

"When a citizen calls for an emergency response -- for fire, health, safety or utility -- time is of the essence," said Mayor Tracy Holle. "Our first responders, officers and public workers often waste valuable time searching for a house or building number. Being able to find a location quickly can literally mean life or death to the person having the emergency."

Barry County E-911 and Cassville city ordinances require numbers on all houses and businesses. Property owners will be given a grace period until Nov. 1 to post numbers before compliance letters will be distributed.

Numbers can be purchased at local building and hardware stores. Numbers must be at least three inches tall, in contrast to the background of the structure, reflective to enhance night visibility and visible from the street in front of the building.
