Work update

The Department of Conservation plans to cut water weeds in the river starting late morning on Aug. 5. If necessary more cutting may be done after 9:00 a.m. on Aug. 6. This work is done with a special boat maintained at Meramec Spring Hatchery that is equipped with a sickle cutting device. This operation is done in order to maintain good fishing conditions in the river. Frequently as the flow decreases and water clears weeds grow fast and can take up a great deal of area in the stream making it more difficult to fish.

Work was completed in late July on replacing the eroded log structure just below the hatchery falls with a rock structure. In addition, the gravel bar that formed in front of the fishing pier in the fly area was also removed.

That is a really neat machine, and a very cool photo.
