The substrate beneath the log structure just downstream from the hatchery falls has eroded away.

We had good rainfall (7.16 inches recorded at the hatchery) in June but no significant high water events. The spring averaged 41 million gallons per day (twice the average flow) during the month.

In order for the river to get out of its banks, it would have to be greater than five feet deep on the USGS gauge in the park. This monitor has been in place in the park since February of this year, it displays real time information and can be accessed at: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/mo/nwis/uv?cb_...

Tag sales were 16,019 or 73 more than in June of last year. Year-to-date sales are 55,079. This is 2,949 fewer than last year or -5.1 percent.

The substrate beneath the log structure just downstream from the hatchery falls has eroded away. This has created an unsafe condition since anglers either want to stand on it or walk across it. It has also lowered the pool depth upstream. We have arranged for some heavy equipment to start work on fixing this problem. Currently we plan to take out the log and build a structure out of rock.

While the heavy equipment is in the park, we also plan to take some of the gravel out of the stream in front of the disabled fishing pier in the fly zone. Gravel washed into the area during high water in March and April.

There is now a gravel bar directly in front of the pier which limits fishing area to the anglers using the pier. In addition, anglers in the stream wade out onto the gravel bar, which even causes more problems to people who use the pier.

We anticipate that work on the low water structure downstream from the hatchery falls should be finished by Tuesday, July 15. Work on removal of gravel from the disabled fishing pier area shouldn't take more than two days. Currently we plan to start the week of July 21.

In both cases, work won't start until later in the morning so anglers will have some quality fishing time before the stream becomes murky.
