Tag sales and spring flow
Posted Wednesday, September 3, at 4:44 PM
Tag sales during July and August 2008 have been higher than last year. We were running 2,672 fewer at the end of July than the same time last year. By the end of August the number had shrunk to 423 fewer. Tag sales in March and April of this year were low due to flooding. Year to date sales are at 89,873 or only 0.5% less than last year.

Rainfall at the hatchery was measured at 3.1 inches in July and 5.51 inches in August. This has been an exceptional year with good spring flow that we haven't seen since the early 1990's. Spring flow during August ranged from 23.1 million gallons per day (mgd) to a high of 52.8 mgd. Average flow is around 20 mgd.

The attached graph for the month of August is from the USGS water guage located on the F Hwy bridge.

Dam Restoration at Roaring River Spring More work is being done to restore the Civilian Conservation Corps dam at the spring pool at Roaring River. Two years ago a major project was completed to stabilize the areas of the dam adjacent to the stream that had deteriorated badly. This work also involved driving sheet piling on the spring side of the dam and grouting between the sheet piling and the original dam...

Kids Fishing Day

The Back to School Kids' Fishing Day will be held at Roaring River State Park August 16, 2008. Kids' Fishing Days are probably the best thing that we do at Roaring River. This is an extraordinary event where a lot of volunteers (around 80), from near and far away, as well as staff from several different state agencies and staff working with Jim Rogers and Dave Waugh's come together and work very hard to make the day wonderful for kids and their families. Best of all everything is free...

Stream improvements underway
Posted Tuesday, July 15, at 12:11 PM

We had good rainfall (7.16 inches recorded at the hatchery) in June but no significant high water events. The spring averaged 41 million gallons per day (twice the average flow) during the month. In order for the river to get out of its banks, it would have to be greater than five feet deep on the USGS gauge in the park. ...
