Take the plunge this weekend

Posted Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at 10:18 AM

This weekend several brave men and women will meet at the Central Crossing Taylor Bridge public landing in Shell Knob prepared to plunge into ice cold Table Rock Lake to raise money for a local organization that offers many important community outreach programs.

The second annual Shell Knob Polar Bear Plunge will benefit Kornerstone's Adult Education Program. Through this program, Kornerstone offers GED education and other services. In addition to its adult education program, Kornerstone offers afterschool programs and an impressive Teen Mom Program, which gives pregnant teenagers valuable resources, counseling services and other assistance.

A $10 donation is requested of all volunteer plungers, but I'm sure Kornerstone would accept donations from those of us who don't plan to brave the chill of Table Rock Lake. So, if you find yourself looking for something to do this Saturday at around 1 p.m. take the trip down south to Shell Knob to cheer on the polar bear plungers and help raise a few dollars for a valuable community resource.
